Q. I don't have a family doctor. How do I find a physician?
A. The Yukon Government currently manages a program called "Find a Doctor" which aims to connect Yukoner's with a family doctor who is accepting patients. By signing up for this program, you can apply to be added to a waitlist to be matched with a family physician. Follow this link to apply to be matched to a doctor online. You can also phone insured health services at 867-667-5209 for more information.
Q. I am unhappy with my family physician. What are my options?
A. Book an appointment with your doctor so that you can speak with them directly about your concerns. We cannot provide patients with a new doctor due to the number of patients who have no family doctor at all.
Q. I just found out that I’m pregnant. What should I do?
A. You can book an appointment with your family doctor to review your options or contact Solstice Maternity directly (867-466-7243) to setup your first prenatal appointment. (Located in Whitehorse Medical Clinic)
Q. Where do I go to get vaccinations?
A. The Whitehorse Health Centre located next to Earls restaurant. Booked appointments are preferred. Call 867-667-8864. http://www.hss.gov.yk.ca/healthcentrewhse.php
Q. Will you call me when my results are in?
A. All patients are expected to come back to follow-up on test results. At the end of your visit, speak to your doctor about the appropriate time to come back. We receive hundreds of test results daily. For privacy and logistical reasons we cannot provide test results over the phone nor inform you if test results have arrived. We will call you if a result is urgent.
Q. How long does it take for my results to come back?
A. Every result varies. Patients will be alerted if we get back a critical result.
Q. Can I get my prescriptions over the phone or without an appointment?
A. We prescribe medications for the duration of time required before reassessment. If your prescription is running out then this is a reminder to come in to reassess how you are doing, and what, if any, changes we need to make. We are sometimes able to decrease or even stop medications, and are happy to discuss this with you when we see you.
Q. My family physician is booked up next week but I ran out of my prescription and I need it now!
A. Call your pharmacy and ask if they can extend your Rx until your next appointment date. If your doctor is fully booked up and you cannot get an extension, you may need to go to the emergency room at the hospital for a renewal.
Q. I have an appointment tomorrow and my child is sick, can I bring him/her with me and be seen at the same time?
A. No. This will cause the doctor to run behind schedule, you may however forfeit your appointment and give it to your child and then re-book your appointment for a later date.
